Ladies’ Bible Study: Ladies, join us for the Thursday night Bible Study! We are doing 1 & 2 Thessalonians, using a study guide by Kathleen Nielson. We are meeting at the home of Tayla Bonin from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tayla's address is 11824 - 195th Ave NW in Elk River.

Annual Business Meeting Tonight: Join us for the Annual Meeting tonight from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the home of Dave and Susan Fergus (19352 Carson Circle, Elk River NW). We will be voting on the annual budget and other items, hearing from the new building team, and hearing about the vision for 2018. Members are asked to attend but all are welcome.

Pro-Life Rally Monday January 22: Join us on Monday, January 22 for the annual March for Life at the State Capitol at noon.The March commemorates the deaths of more than 60 million unborn babies killed by abortion and the many men and women wounded by the aftermath.The Crow River MCCL Chapter has arranged bus service.The bus will pick up at St. Michael’s Catholic Church at 9:15 a.m., St. Albert Catholic Church east parking lot at 9:20 a.m., and Mary Queen of Peace, Rogers at 9:30 a.m.

Prayer for Building and Land Monday January 22: Join us at the home of Jesse and Sarah Daas at 7:00 p.m. to seek the will and wisdom of God regarding the acquisition of land or a building for Glory of Christ Fellowship. Jesse will be sharing some thoughts from Scripture, after which we will seek the Lord together. Parenting Heart Issues Seminar Saturday January 27 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Church Office: In this class we explore the heart issues of anger, anxiety and grumbling. Parents will be equipped to identify and address these heart issues in themselves and in their children with biblical truth.

All-Church Prayer Meeting Wednesday January 31: Join us for the All-Church Prayer Meeting on Wednesday, January 31 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at the Handke Center. We will be lifting up the corporate and personal needs of GCF as well as our ministry teams and our local and global outreach ministries.

I know I am a little bit overweight. My doctor tells me so. The mirror that I look into affirms it and the scale (that I mostly avoid) reminds me every time I step on it. All of that makes what I am about to say so much more impressive. I had the privilege of sitting on the beaches of Florida's Atlantic coast for 8 days on our most recent family trip. For me there is something magical about the beach, especially on the Atlantic side with the waves washing up against the shoreline. We have been lucky enough to find a sleepy beach town to vacation at. A nook, if you will, that typically features retired folks or families with kids. Out of the way of those who want to party, the beach is truly a relaxing place for me.  Let me tell you something that I gleaned this time around that never quite landed on me. This Sunday we resume our study of the book of Revelation and within the first eight verses of chapter 6 we will encounter the wrath of God being poured out upon the world. In one sense, being confronted with the reality of God’s wrath is uncomfortable at best, but in another sense, it fills the believing heart with joy.  One of the first essays I wrote in college was on the wrath and love of God, and probably the main effect it has had on my life is to cause joy to rise up in my heart whenever I contemplate God’s wrath. Sometime ago I shared this with a pastor friend of mine and though he said nothing in response, he looked at me as if to say, “If you knew anything about the wrath of God, you would not rejoice in it.” At the time, I wasn't sure how to respond, but I knew that the joy in my heart was not stemming from a belittling of the horror of the wrath of God.
