Baptism Service and Picnic, June 26, 2016 We make summer picnics a priority in order to give us a chance to spend time with one another while we enjoy the warm weather. Everyone is invited to attend our picnic and baptism today after the worship service. This is an excellent time to get to know the people of GCF. We will eat lunch first and then begin our service at 1:00 p.m. Related to food, everyone who plans to come should bring a side dish to share with others and some meat to grill for their own family. You don’t have to worry about charcoal, water, and picnic supplies (such as napkins, cups, plates, and plastic silverware etc.) those will be provided. However, even if you do not have any food to share please come anyway, there is always enough to go around. Make sure to bring chairs if you would like to sit down on the lakefront. Swimming is also available for those who would like to go in the water.

Why Should Christians Love their Enemies?

Enemy love. This is a controversial and unique feature of Christianity that is often misunderstood. Recently I came across a quote from Augustine that explains why Christians love their enemies. It’s not an easy read, but I encourage you to push yourself. Read his words carefully and meditate on them until you understand what he’s saying, and more importantly what the Lord is trying to teach us through him. "Now...what does it become us to do who live in the fellowship of the love of God, the enjoyment of whom is true happiness of life, to whom all who love Him owe both their own existence and the love they offer Him, concerning whom we have no fear that anyone who comes to know Him will be disappointed in Him, and who desires our love, not for any gain to Himself, but that those who love Him may obtain an eternal reward, even Himself whom they love? “And hence it is that we love even our enemies. For we do not fear them, seeing they cannot take away from us what we love; but

Faith and Contentment in Christ (By Dan Porch, Missionary to Peru)

When Jesus taught, he often took the simple, in plain view realities and used them to explain some aspect of life that is hidden due to our dullness. For example, he pointed to the flowers of the field for several of his illustrations. Taking the easy things for us to see and understand, he explained deeper truths to those who had ears to hear. Well, several mornings back, I awoke early and walked into our little sitting area to pray. I looked outside, and in the darkness, I could tell that something was different with the tree just beyond our window. I looked more closely, but the darkness hid the reality from my eyes. It wasn’t too long before the sun began to chase the darkness into the disappearing night. And as I glanced out the window again...the tree, that had been all green the day before, was now covered...I mean covered in little white flowers...it was beautiful! And oh the fragrance that began to waft into our home. Two days later, the tree was green again...the fragra

George Mueller and Faith in Prayer

Some time ago, as Kim and I were preparing to take our rest for the night, she received and read to me the following devotional from Streams in the Desert. It touched both of us pretty deeply, and so I wanted to share it with you as well. May we learn to pray with childlike faith, knowing that our Father hears and answers prayer when we pray according to his will (John 15:7; 1 John 5:14). “I went to America some years ago with the captain of a steamer, who was a very devoted Christian. When off the coast of Newfoundland he said to me, ‘The last time I crossed here, five weeks ago, something happened which revolutionized the whole of my Christian life. We had George Mueller of Bristol on board. I had been on the bridge twenty-four hours and never left it. George Mueller came to me, and said, “Captain I have come to tell you that I must be in Quebec Saturday afternoon.” “It is impossible,” I said. “Very well, if your ship cannot take me, God will find some other way. I have never
