Hebrews 12:1-3

  1. What is the heart of the Christian way of life? Why is this so?
  2. Do you agree that Hebrews 11 is mainly about the faithfulness of God? Why or why not?
  3. What issue is the author addressing in Hebrews 12:1-3? (See 2:1-4; 5:11-6:12)
  4. What does the author want the people to do about this problem? Do you think his counsel will work? Why or why not?
  5. What weights and sins would the Lord address in your life at this time? What specific steps would he have you take to lay them aside?
  6. Are you looking to the cloud of witnesses through the Word and letting them strengthen your faith? How would the Lord have you strengthen your time in the Word right now?
  7. Are you leaning on your brothers and sisters in Christ and doing life in Christ together with them? How would the Lord have you strengthen these relationships right now?
  8. Are you fixating upon Jesus and pondering his way of life? How would the Lord have you strengthen this aspect of your walk with him right now?

Reflective Glory: How the Moon Displays the Mercy of God

Our sun is a fitting metaphor for the glory of God. In the context of our solar system, it is massive, bright, beautiful, powerful, self-sufficient, heat-producing, life-giving, and dangerous. It is, by far, the dominant feature of our solar system and without it the system would fling apart and all living things therein would die.  On the other hand, our moon is a fitting metaphor for human beings, especially for those who believe in Jesus Christ. First, compared to the sun, the moon is tiny and dim. The sun is 400 times larger than the moon, its mass is 27 million times greater than the mass of the moon, and from our perspective its light shines 450,000 times brighter than that of the moon. The sun is so much greater than the moon that it’s difficult to quantify and express the difference.
