Last week I wrote about the vision for worship at Glory of Christ Fellowship (GCF) and I shared that our aim in worship is to exalt the glory of God in the eyes of his people that they might see, sing, seek, and submit to him. This week I would like to highlight the opportunities for worship that exist at GCF and encourage you to pray about getting involved.
First, I want to expand our vision of worship ministry beyond just music and preaching. In fact, I would argue that every aspect of our Sunday morning ministries is part of it, for example, setup, greeting and ushering, managing the content of our tables, giving the announcements, reading, singing, praying, preaching, listening, learning, eating, breaking down, and fellowship. All of these things and more are part and parcel of our worship ministry, and when done well they have the potential to evoke true worship in the hearts of those who participate and those who observe the faith-filled service of others.
Second, while worship itself extends to every aspect of our lives, worship ministry does have some boundaries. Specifically, worship ministry refers to all aspects of the public exaltation and proclamation of the glory of God. So at GCF this includes our Sunday morning ministries, our Community Group gatherings, and occasional services wherein we sing, pray, and meditate on the Word of God together.
Third, with this in mind, there are ample opportunities for worship ministry available to anyone (1) who believes in Jesus Christ and has been baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, (2) who is engaged in the life of the church and is at least moving toward membership, for we believe in the principle, “commitment before contribution,” (3) who meets the biblical criteria for the aspects of worship they want to participate in, (4) who has the skills and talents necessary for the aspects of worship they want to participate in, and (5) who is able to get along with others and willing to pursue biblical peacemaking when difficulties or disagreements arise.
So do you have a heart to serve in some aspect of the worship ministries at GCF? Please spend some time praying about this and clarifying your desires with the Lord. And when you’re ready, contact Pastor Charlie (charlie@gcfmn.org), Pastor Kevin (kevin@gcfmn.org), Jesse Daas (jessedaas@gmail.com), or Asa Veek (reallyasa@gmail.com) so that we can pray with you and help you discern some next steps.
