The Greatest Love John 15:12-17 Questions for Study and Meditation Read John 15:12-15. What is Jesus’ command to his disciples? What is the greatest love? What did Jesus call his disciples and why?      The arrest, trial, conviction, torture, crucifixion, burial, and resurrection of Jesus are central to human history and, more importantly, to the gospel itself (see 1 Corinthians 15:3-9). Without this central part of the story of Jesus, there is no forgiveness of sins (Hebrews 9:22), there is no defeat of Satan (Colossians 2:15), there is no reconciliation with God (Romans 5:10), and there is no eternal life (Romans 5:21).      Because this three-day period in the life of Jesus is so important, it is worthy of an annual time of meditation, prayer, repentance, and worship. Therefore, we invite you to join us for the following services and activities wherein we will ponder the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus and seek to apply his amazing grace to our lives.      Since we will highlight the Gospel of Matthew this year, we also invite you to carefully and prayerfully meditate on Matthew 26-28 over the next two weeks.      Over the last three months we have meditated on the eight sections of our Membership Affirmation of Faith which include (1) The Trinity, (2) God the Father, (3) Jesus Christ, (4) The Holy Spirit, (5) The Word of God, (6) The Human Condition and Salvation, (7) The Church, and (8) The Last Things. Our aim in this series has been to help the church grow in our understanding of truth, our love of God, our love of one another, and our love of unbelievers. This week we close out the series with a few thoughts on why theology matters and why we should give time to it.       The word “theology” is made up of two Greek words that mean “God” and “teaching,” so that theology is “teaching about God.” While the Bible never uses the word theology, it does use the words doctrine, teaching, and sound-doctrine or healthy-teaching (1 Timothy 1:10; Titus 1:9; 2:1). All sound doctrine centers on the gospel of Jesus Christ, and it touches upon both biblical truth and biblical ethics. In other words
