Questions for Study and Meditation
- Read John 12:1-3. When and why did Jesus travel to Bethany? Who was there and what was each person doing? From Mary’s perspective, why did she anoint Jesus’ feet? Why does John give us such detailed information about the ointment?
- Read John 12:4-8. What was Judas’ objection to Mary’s actions? Why was he concerned about this? How did Jesus to respond to him? How do you think the disciples understood his words?
- Read John 12:9-11. When John speaks of “the Jews” in verse 9, to whom was he referring? What was their interest? How did the chief priests think about Lazarus? What did they want to do with him and why?
- What’s the most important thing you learned from today’s sermon? From John 12:1-11?
- How has this sermon helped you to grow in love for God and others?
- What’s the most important thing Jesus would have you do in light of this sermon?
- Take some time to worship Jesus. Thank him, praise him, and ask for his help as you seek to strive with other believers for the faith of the gospel.
