Study Questions

1.    Read 1 Samuel 29:1-5. Consulting a Bible map or google search, find out where Aphek and Jezreel were located. The Philistines had five “lords” or kings. Why was David with Achish? What was his role? What was his dilemma?
2.    Why did the “commanders” (probably the same as the lords) object to David fighting alongside them? How did Achish answer them and what was the outcome?
3.    Read 1 Samuel 29:6-8. What specifically did Achish say to David? How did he respond and why?
4.    Read 1 Samuel 29:9-11. What was Achish’s final decision? What did David do? How do you see the grace of God at work in David’s life through this?
5.     What’s the most important thing you learned from the sermon and your personal study?
6.     How has today’s message helped you to grow in love for God and others?
7.     What is the most important thing Jesus would have you do in light of 1 Samuel 29?
8.  Take some time to worship Jesus. Thank him, praise him, and ask for his help as you seek to strive with other believers for the faith of the gospel.
