- Read John 8:31-38. According to Jesus, how can a person be set free? Why did Jesus say his hearers were not free? Why were they acting the way that they were acting?
- Read John 8:39-47. Why did Jesus deny that Abraham was the father of these Jews? Why did he deny that God was their Father? Who, then, did he say was their father and why? What was their father like? How were they like their father?
- Read John 8:48-59. What did these Jews claim about Jesus? Why did Jesus respond by talking about who was seeking his glory? What does it mean to say that Abraham saw Jesus’ day and was glad? What did the Jews think of this claim? What was Jesus final statement, and why did it anger the Jews so much?
- What’s the most important thing you learned from today’s sermon? From John 8:31-59?
