- Read 2 Samuel 8:1-2. Why was it so easy for David to defeat the Philistines after Israel spent decades suffering under their power? Who were the Moabites to David? Why did he come against them and what was the result?
- Read 2 Samuel 8:3-8. Where was Zobah? What specifically did David do to them and their allies? Why were his victories over them significant?
- Read 2 Samuel 8:9-12. Where was Hamath? How did their King respond to David’s military successes? What did David do with the King’s gifts and why?
- Read 2 Samuel 8:13-14. Where was Edom? From whom did the Edomites descend? Why did David place so many garrisons there? What was the ultimate cause of all his victories?
- Read 2 Samuel 8:15-18. What kind of King was David? Why does the author name his “top brass” for us?
- What’s the most important thing you learned from the sermon and your personal study?
- How has today’s message helped you to grow in love for God and others?
- What is the most important thing Jesus would have you do in light of 2 Samuel 8?
