We post these worship songs leading up to the worship service so that parents may listen to them in the house or in the car within the days leading up to the worship service. Our hope is that children will hear the songs prior to and it will prepare them to participate in worship on Sunday mornings. I would like to interact a little bit with Paul Tripp's book, The Age of Opportunity  which is chalk full of parenting insight, particularly as it relates to parenting teens.      Last week we briefly considered what Jesus sees when he sees the church, and drew the conclusion that if we could see the church as he sees her, we act as we ought to act toward her. But as we grow in the proper sight of the church, how does Jesus want us to act toward her? Probably the best way to answer this question is to ponder the many “one another” commands of the New Testament. In this brief devotional, let me just highlight a few of them.      First, Jesus’ primary command about his Bride is this: “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:34-35). And again, “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you” (John 15:12). Even as our Lord and Savior laid down his life for us, he calls on us to be like him and lay down our lives for each other. ...

Scripture clearly defines a covenant relationship between one man and one woman as the biblical norm for marriage. Scripture also teaches us that this covenant between man and woman is to be lived out as worship before the living God. Furthermore, this relationship known as marriage is a reflection of God's covenant keeping love with his people and the building block of human life and human flourishing in the world. In other words, God's design for family is for one man to be covenantally joined to one woman for life, in which relationship children are produced and nurtured to life and ultimately faith in the living God.  Unfortunately, this view of human sexuality is not only increasingly considered archaic but hostile, hateful, and intolerant. What should a teens priority in prayer be? How should a parent of a teen be praying for them? No doubt there are many practical needs that bring urgency to certain priorities in prayer. However, urgency or immediacy should not replace biblical priorities for prayer. Keeping a biblical perspective, here is a prayer based on Romans 5:1-5. Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
