Beholding the Glory of God in Christ, Part I, by Pastor Charlie Handren

Beholding the Glory of God in Christ, Part I By Pastor Charlie Ephesians 5:8 teaches believers that “at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord.” This is an awesome truth and since it is in the Word of God we believe it, but the question is this: how does this work? In the ebb and flow of daily life, how do believers transform from darkness to light? In brief, here are my answers: (1) We transform from darkness to light by beholding the glory of God in the face of Christ [2 Corinthians 4:6]; (2) We grow in holiness and Christ-likeness by beholding the glory of God in the face of Christ [2 Corinthians 3:18]; and (3) The destiny of every Christian is to be thoroughly and totally transformed by beholding the glory of God in the face of Christ [1 John 3:1-3]. If what I’ve suggested is true, then the question becomes this: How do we behold the glory of God in the face of Christ? There are many important answers to this question, but over the next two wee...

Intimacy with God is Free...But it's not Cheap, by Pastor Charlie Handren

Intimacy with God is Free…But it’s not Cheap By Pastor Charlie The Apostle Paul writes in Ephesians 5:1, “Therefore, be imitators of God, as beloved children.” This is a stunning command. It essentially means, “Learn to be like your Father because you are profoundly loved by your Father.” I suppose this command would be just like any other were it not for the grandeur and glory of who God is. But given that God is far greater than all persons and things in heaven and on earth, and that he’s far more glorious than each and all, this command is stunning. It’s inviting us to be like the God who saved us. It’s inviting us beyond mere forgiveness into deep relationship. It’s beckoning us beyond outward conformity to the things of God into inward transformation by the love of God. It’s offering us the opportunity to know the deep joy of the holiness that’s born of intimacy with God.   And indeed, this very intimacy was, and is, the aim of the cross of Christ. For the glory of ...

How Shall I Make Atonement? 2 Samuel 21:1-22 September 25, 2016 Study Questions 1.   Read 2 Samuel 21:1-9. How long did the famine last in Israel? What did David do in response to it? What specifically did the Lord say to him and what does this teach us about the justice of the Lord? 2.   Why did David ask the Gibeonites what he should do to make atonement rather than the Lord? What was their answer and how does it play into greater biblical themes? Was this a just solution to the problem? 3.   Read 2 Samuel 21:10-14. Who was Rizpah and what did she do after the death of Saul’s sons? What did David eventually do and why? Once David’s deed was done, how did the Lord respond to the famine and why? 4.    Read 2 Samuel 21:15-22. When was the last time we heard about the Philistines? Why do they come back into the story at this point? How did David respond to them and with what results? Since Gath was Goliath’s hometown, why is the defeat of the fo...
